Teaching

I would love to speak to your guild, group, or organization. Let’s chat about timing, topic, and format! My current presentations are below.

If you would like a custom program, we can discuss whether I have capacity. Each presentation is 45 minutes with time for questions, either via Zoom (preferred) or in-person.

  • “From Accidental Ableism to Intentional Inclusion”
an introduction to ableism, disability, and neurodivergence with practical suggestions to improve accessibility and foster inclusion in your spaces. [Suitable for all audiences]

  • “Finding Creativity Inside the Box”

an exploration of the ways we can use our real-world constraints as sources of creativity, with examples from my own creative practice and personal limitations. I offer suggestions for making the shift to a compassionate, non-judgmental mindset as well as practical tips to their own creative practice.

  • “Crafting Inclusive Spaces”
a discussion about the subtle ways ableism shows up in our spaces and what we can do to make our spaces more inclusive for disabled and neurodivergent members of our communities. [Suitable for all audiences, can be modified for crafting groups]

  • “My (Not Inspirational) Story in 5 Quilts”
an exploration of the ways disability influences my creative practice. I share 5 quilts that represent key moments on my journey from nondisabled to disabled quilter and explain why “inspirational” isn’t always a compliment . [Intended for crafting groups; also for general audiences open to learning a bit about quilting along the way]

  • Quilting lectures: Applipops, hand applique, or temperature quilts. I’m a quilter at heart and love teaching about my favorite topics. I teach in inclusive ways that respect different approaches.
