Teaching

Small acts of inclusion add up. Get enough of them in our spaces and we change our culture.

I would love to speak to your group or organization. Let’s chat about timing, topic, and format! My current presentations are below.

Each presentation is 45 minutes with time for questions, either via Zoom (preferred) or in-person.

  • “From Empathy to Action: a New Way Forward”
an introduction to disability and neurodivergence through the lens of lived experience with practical suggestions to improve accessibility and foster inclusion in your spaces. [can be customized to audience needs]

  • “Finding Creativity Inside the Box”

an exploration of the ways we can use our real-world constraints as sources of creativity, with examples from my own creative practice and personal limitations. I offer suggestions for making the shift to a compassionate, non-judgmental mindset as well as practical tips you can apply to your own creative practice.

  • “My (Not Inspirational) Story in 5 Quilts”
an exploration of the ways disability influences my creative practice. I share 5 quilts that represent key moments on my journey from nondisabled to disabled quilter and explain why “inspirational” isn’t always a compliment.

  • “Crafting Inclusive Spaces”
a discussion about the subtle ways ableism shows up in our spaces and what we can do to make our spaces more inclusive for disabled and neurodivergent members of our communities. [can be customized for audience needs]

  • Quilting lectures: Applipops, hand applique, or temperature quilts. I’m a quilter at heart and love teaching about my favorite topics. I teach in inclusive ways that respect different approaches.
